Q. Can a PSP from another country play games in my country?
Yes! All PSP units are region free and universal for games, this means you can play
any game from any country on any PSP. It also means you can take your PSP with you
travelling to any country and still play games from that country. In addition, you
can purchase a PSP unit from another country, like the ones we sell at Burn Direct,
and play any game from any country, including those sold locally.
All PSP units come with World Compatible rechargers and as they are handheld units
with LCD screens, TV standards like NTSC and PAL are not relevant. Simply turn it
on and you're away!
Q. Do I need a voltage converter to use an import PSP unit?
No! All PSP units come with universal or World Compatible rechargers. This means
you can recharge your PSP unit anywhere in world, including if you purchase an import
version PSP and use it in your country (ie. Japan or US version PSP recharging in
Australia/New Zealand and vice versa).

Q. What is the difference between Standard and Value Packs?
The current Official Value Packs include all the items of the standard PSP Unit pack,
plus the addition of a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, MP3 Adaptor and Headphones, Official PSP
Carry Case and Official PSP Leather wrist strap. For more information on the different
packs, please check the PSP Hardware section of the Burn Site.

Q. What is a UMD?
UMDs or Universal Media Discs are high capacity 1.8GB dual layer discs that are in a
protective plastic case to help prevent scratches and damage to the disc. UMDs are only
60mm in diameter and can transfer data at a rate of 11MB/sec, twice the speed of DVD.
UMDs are now being produced for PSP Games and full length, DVD quality UMD Movies.
Q. Will PSP play movies
Yes! PSP can play both full length, DVD quality UMD Movies as well as MP4 compressed
movies stored on Memory Stick Duo.
Many major Moviehouse publishers are releasing popular, classic and new release feature
movies in UMD format and Burn Direct is supporting all region UMD movies for PSP. Use
the search function of the site to browse through the many hundreds of UMD movies now
available.
PSP will also play MP4 compressed movies stored on Memory Stick Duo. These type of
movies can be any standard movie, be it a home video, DVD or VHS movie, that has been
compressed using the popular MPEG-4 (MP4) format. Movies compressed with this standard
can achieve incredible, space saving, storage size with a full length movie easily
being stored on a 512MB Memory Stick Duo (also available from Burn Direct) to take
with you anywhere. You can transfer these type of movies from any PC with a standard
USB port to your PSP by using a USB transfer cable (available separate).
Q. What region/s UMD Movies will PSP play?
At present each PSP unit has region coding similar to DVD players, for example US
UMD Movies are coded to Region 1 and Australian/New Zealand UMD Movies are coded to
Region 4. Each PSP unit as standard will only play one region of UMD Movie as well as
Region Free or Region 0 UMD Movies. There is work underway to create a boot disc or
software routine that can be saved to a Memory Stick which will allow all region
playback of UMD Movies, similar to DVD Region X on Playstation 2, etc. This will
effectively open the market of choice to PSP owners that want to play UMD movies to
a much larger range similar to DVD movies now are. Check back here often for updates
on this as we will be offering this option as soon as it is available.
** Two Important Notes:
1. While PSP Units do have region coding for UMD Movies, they do NOT have region
coding for Games, so you can still play any game from any country on your PSP without
any additional modification.
2. MPEG-4 Compressed movies are not region coded, so if you want to take your
favourite movie with you travelling, simply compress it, transfer it via USB to your
PSP and store it on your Memory Stick Duo (available seperate) to watch it anytime!

Q. Can I play MP3 Music on PSP?
Yes! PSP can play any standard MP3 Music file from your Memory Stick Duo (available
seperate). This means you can transfer all your favourite music via USB Transfer/Link
Cable (also available seperate) from your PC or similar device to your PSP and take
it with you on your travels! Memory Stick Duo's are available in sizes up to 16GB of
storage capacity meaning you can store many, many hours of music and use PSP as your
personal juke box!
Q. How long does the PSP battery last?
In our in-house tests, we have found the standard PSP battery can last up to an
average of 4 to 6 hours of continuous gameplay. If you are playing MP3 music or MP4
movies from Memory Stick Duo, the battery can last up to 12 hours or longer!
High Capacity Batteries are also available separately which can prolong the time between
recharges and offer more gaming, music or movie viewing.
Q. Can I play multi-player games against my friends PSP from another country?
Yes! PSP uses a number of link options that include USB, Infra-Red and WiFi for
multi-player games. All PSP games that include multi-player options are region free
and will play against any other version of the same game on any version PSP. Many current
PSP games use a wireless protocol referred to as WiFi which allows multi-player mayhem
between PSP units at up to 50m or further with no cables required! WiFi uses radio
frequencies to link gamers together meaning 'line of sight' is not required like previous
wireless multi-player units that used Infra-Red technology.
Q. I only speak English and want a Japanese PSP, can the PSP language settings be changed?
Yes! Current PSP Firmware offers ten different language options including English,
German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Protugese, Russian, Japanese and Korean and
is a simple software setting adjustment that you can make at any time.
